Hey y’all!!

Wow, this week has been frustrating and invigorating. Yes, that’s my word of the week, so I included it :) This is also just to show my family I speak good English.

Now y’all, I’m called as an English-speaking missionary, but wow, they should call me a trilingual missionary because I swear I’ve had so many moments trying to speak Spanish or using Google Translate for some other language.

Now, time to listen to this crazy story. Let me set the scene: Sister Bangerter and I are in the car. I’m behind the wheel, driving to our next stop-by. No thoughts in my mind, probably singing the words to some youth song. I see this young girl walk into her house. We continue to our stop-by, but they didn’t answer, so I had the thought to drive back and knock on the door where the girl walked in.

So, I drove past the houses—not remembering which one—so I flipped a coin, took a guess, and we walked up to the house I think she walked into. We knocked, and the girl answered. I gave the usual gist, saying we are missionaries. She looked at me, confused, and said in broken English that she’s from Africa and only knows French.

So, I whipped out Google Translate and basically told her about the Church. She told us her name was Yvonne and said to come back tomorrow. We returned the next night with a French Book of Mormon, along with our testimonies and a brief explanation of what the book is—all in French.

We met her sister, Carene. We had a conversation about God’s love, all through Google Translate—us using French, and them translating in English. But no matter how awkward the situation was or how lacking Sister B and I are with French, the Spirit was there. That thought I had wasn’t me. I know it was the Spirit prompting me to knock on Yvonne’s door. We have an appointment on Thursday, and we are so excited. They told us they are looking for a church.

I know God is aware of each of us—no matter who we are or what we might think. I know God prompts us through the Holy Ghost. You gotta be dialed in to listen to that still small voice!

Now time for the frustrating part.

They think they can take us out of the movie theater, but they can’t take the movie theater out of us. It was a normal Tuesday with Sister Bangerter and me outside the movie theater, street contacting. And y’all… security is out for us. They asked what we were doing, so I took my mom’s best advice: I pretended to be on an important phone call. They felt bad interrupting, so they let us be. I like to think I was on the phone with the Lord and He told them to leave. “You need to leave.”

Plus, my phone has been glitching so hard—that hasn’t helped the frustration!

Y’all, I have to tell you about a very spiritual experience I had this week.

We had an Easter play we got to attend as missionaries—but only if we had a friend show up. I actually attended this play last year with my sissy Simmons!! AND MY BOY THOMAS!!

So y’all, we invited Ryan. Ryan is literally so flaky it ain’t even funny. But we show up, and boy texts us that he’ll be 20 minutes late.

Facepalm

So we walk in—the play had already started. And during the peak, when they are literally belting, Ryan walks in, the light shining behind him. Not gonna lie… he looked angelic. Like he walked in with some intro music.

Y’all, I can’t tell you how beautiful this play was. It’s called The Lamb of God, and they let us missionaries take up the last 5 rows to bring our friends and recent converts. During the play, I just looked around at how amazed the people were—those who are giving up time to the missionaries to learn more about their Savior. And the missionaries, who’ve put in so much effort to be there for them! Man, it made me tear up realizing the realness of this. Being a missionary has been so rewarding.

Speaking of reunions… someone might’ve missed the mission a little too much—because she came back only 4 months after going home!!

I SAW SISTER SIMMONS!!

(Or I guess her name is Kendra now… but I’m still gonna call her Sister Simmons until I’m released because that would be hecka weird.)

Bro came back because she missed her fav companion—which is me. So I feel blessed.

Literally so hyped!! We probably had too much fun when we were companions.

We had zone training, y’all!!

Which is always hype because I get to see missionary friends like Sister Earl, who’s from SoCal and literally knows a lot of people I know!!

And I also got to see Sister Martins, who’s from Brasília, Brazil.

Shoutout Maclaine—I told her to look for you when she gets home!!

Anyway, zone training went really well… but for the game part? I have been lacking. I literally failed so hard!

We had a very amazing Sunday!!

It was Stake Conference—so it was absolutely dialed!! Before that, we had a special meeting for new members, returning members, and friends we are teaching—with the whole stake!

Two people spoke about their conversion stories. One was a recent convert in my ward. She shared how her husband, a returning member, found Jesus again through coming back to church—and then she found Him too by attending with him.

Another speaker, baptized in March, shared his story of attending church for 5 years—sitting in his car during second hour, waiting for his member wife. One day, he saw a social media post mocking Joseph Smith, and he felt offended. He asked himself why—and after doing some research and praying, he felt prompted to be baptized.

It was such an amazing meeting—the Spirit was so strong!!

Y’all, God is truly in this work.

Y’all, this week is a very special week!!

It’s Semana Santa, or Holy Week!!

President Russell M. Nelson teaches that Jesus Christ “came to pay a debt He didn’t owe because we owed a debt we couldn’t pay.”

Think of the realness of that quote!

Jesus Christ rode in on a donkey into Jerusalem, people shouting “Hosanna.”

The same people praising Him were the same ones crucifying Him just 5 days later.

As members of the Church—and even if you’re not—we have an additional witness of the resurrected Savior and Easter miracle. I’m talking about the Book of Mormon, and more specifically, the account of Jesus Christ appearing to the inhabitants in ancient America in His resurrected glory.

3 Nephi 11:

“Arise and come forth unto me … that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am … the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.

And … the multitude went forth, … one by one … and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, … and did bear record, that it was he.”

They shouted Hosanna!

The contrast between this and Palm Sunday… it hits.

I’m truly so grateful for the Book of Mormon and the additional light it brings this week.

I encourage all of you to read the first 17 verses of 3 Nephi 11!!

Imagine yourself in the place of those Nephites—being able to actually touch the hands of the risen Lord!

I love y’all!! Happy Easter!!

Xoxo,

Sister Kimball
