The youth🙌 Cottonwood Creek Colorado December 2024 |
What a crazy week, y’all!
This email is going to be mostly pictures because I know y’all miss my beautiful face!
Transfer news came out, and honestly, I’m shocked! I’m staying in Cottonwood for my 5th transfer here, which is like 6 months. Literally blew my mind! My little trainee is going to spread her wings and leave the nest, haha. So, I got a new companion—4 companions now in this area!
When I told the ward I’m staying, they all started busting out laughing. They said, “Wow, the Lord is definitely trying to teach you something for sure!” Can’t wait to escape (just kidding). Spending a third of my mission in Cottonwood has been a blessing. I love these people; they’re like family. They all get my humor now and make fun of me, so it feels like home!
On Tuesday (I think? This week’s a blur!), my trainee, Sister Peck, and I headed to the church building to pick up our temporary trio companion, Sister LeSueur, whose companion was heading home. Y’ALL, I AM NOT OKAY. My two best friends left the mission! Honestly, they should’ve extended until July! 😭😭 Fake friends, for real. Here’s a picture of them so I can always remember. Sister Simmons and Sister Lewis truly changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful for them. Well, I guess they’re not “Sister” anymore—#Hally+Kendra+Lexi=BFFs.

The day after transfers, God must have known I was sad about my besties leaving because He made up for it—I got to see my SISTER PIUTAU! (Okay, not my real sister, but I always tell people that because we came out together. My MTC comps went somewhere else, but I met Sister Piutau in the MTC.) We also served in the same district for three transfers, which were the best three transfers ever. Well, the first one is debatable—she’d agree with me, haha! I’m still salty she threw away my breakfast sandwich before I finished it, but it’s fine, I guess.
My new companion is Sister Ducker! 🦆 She’s from good ol’ Sacramento, California, and this is her last transfer! What’s crazy is that she already served here in this area for four transfers a year ago. I told her she did such a good job that she had to come back to finish her mission here! Lol! Me and Sister Ducker go way back to my 3rd transfer—she was in my district. I used to yell at her for not getting to the volleyball fast enough. Good times! So now, we’re both doing our 5th transfer in Cottonwood.

Morning run views Cottonwood Creek, Colorado December 2024 |
Y’all, we are finding like crazy out here! Our numbers are skyrocketing. We’re not in the 0s anymore but in the 3s and 4s! We even found a whole family the other day, so we treated ourselves to Jamba Juice. It was soooo good! We’re so excited about the work—there are some amazing people who are genuinely interested! One guy, Larry, referred himself. I thought he might be an older guy who accidentally signed up, especially since he lives in the same place as Diane. I need to work on my faith and hope, lol. But when we knocked, he was actually interested and already had a Book of Mormon! My boy Larry is elect!
Funny story: All our member dinners kept canceling this week, so we called an inactive member who told us to hit them up if we ever didn’t have dinner plans. They took us to an Arabian restaurant! I got curry, and wow, I can’t handle spice. It was soooo good, but it made my mouth want to die. I drank four waters trying to cool off, but no regrets.
Saturday was the ward Christmas party! We helped set up, and let me tell you—never again. They gave us the hardest job: wrapping the tables. The rectangular ones were easy, but the circle tables? Pure evil. Wrapping those was the end of me. This ward is so lucky I’m service-oriented and humble, haha. But the party was a hit! It was a “Night in Bethlehem” theme all about the birth of Christ. It was so fun, and the ward was so glad to see I hadn’t left. They were also excited to see Sister Ducker back at it again in Cottonwood Creek! You can take the sisters out of the Creek, but you can’t take the Creek out of the sisters. 🏞

Sis Simmons saying goodbye to the fam!! Cottonwood Creek Colorado December 2024 |
Christmas thought: I was listening to some devotionals, and Elder Gong said something that really struck me:
“Why, when we think of Scrooge, do we focus on the grumpy miser who scoffs at Christmas? Why don’t we acknowledge the new Scrooge—the one who generously gives, reconciles with family, and cares for others? No person or family is perfect. This Christmas, we can offer and receive Christ’s gifts of change, repentance, and forgiveness.”
This hit me hard! Growth isn’t about comparing ourselves to others—it’s about becoming better than we were before. I’ve changed so much this past year (not saying I’m perfect!), but it’s amazing to see even small progress. Let’s all keep growing every day!
MAN, I LOVE CHRISTMAS! 🫶🎄🎅
XOXO,
Sister Kimball
